This is from Mom, and is a very special recipe.                      400F for 15 min

Ingredients:

Measure and sift together:

2 cups flour

4 tsp. baking powder

½ tsp. salt

Other Ingredients:

1/3 cup shortening

½ to 1/3 cup milk

1 Tbsp. soft butter or margarine

2 large apples

4 Tbsp. Sugar

¼ tsp. cinnamon

Cut in the shortening. Add milk to make a soft dough. Roll out ¼ inch thick in an oblong shape. Spread with soft butter or margarine. Grate 2 large apples. Mix with the sugar and cinnamon. Spread over the dough and roll up as for jelly roll. Cut in ½ inch slices. Place on a greased baking pan. Sprinkle with ¼ tsp. cinnamon. Bake for 15 min at 400F. Serve with:

CLEAR SAUCE

4 Tbsp. butter

1 Tbsp. flour

pinch salt

3 Tbsp. sugar

1 cup boiling water

½ tsp. vanilla

Melt the butter in the top of a double boiler. Add the flour, pinch of salt and the sugar. Stir until smooth. Then add 1 cup boiling water. Stir and cook for 5 minutes. Add the tsp. vanilla.
